Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship among self- disclosure,
self- est eem, family - environment perception in nursing students.
This study was carried out with 244 nursing students at Junior College located in Andong, Kor ea during the period from April 13 to 26, 1999.
The instrument for this study were Self-Disclosure Questionnaire developed by Jourard,
Self- Esteem Inventory developed by Coopersmith and Family - Environment Scale Form R
designed by Rudolf Moos.
The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics , F - test , Pearson correlation coefficients and ANOVA.
The results of this study were as follows :
1. The mean of self- disclosure score was 1.03, the mean of self- esteem score was 59.36
and the mean of family - environment perception score was 42.84
2. There was positive correlation among self- disclosure, self- esteem and family- environment perception (P=.0001).
3. The relationship between general characteristics and self- disclosure, self- esteem and family- environment perception was as follows :
The significant difference of self- disclosure were observed in grade, sibling order,
economic status and occupation of parents.
The significant difference of self- esteem was observed in economic status.
The significant difference of family - environment perception were observed in religion,
sibling order, economic status, educational level of father and educational level of
mother.
This study indicated that positive correlation among self- disclosure, self- esteem and
family - environment perception. For improving self- disclosure in nur sing students should be considered self- esteem and family- environment perception. Also, self- disclosure training program to increase self- disclosure should be implemented.
